This specialized plate consists of two distinct layers:
Base Layer (Substrate): Typically made of low-carbon steel or low-alloy high-strength steel (such as Q235B, Q345B, or NM400). This layer provides excellent toughness, impact resistance, and ductility, bearing the overall structural strength while ensuring good welding and forming capabilities.
Wear-Resistant Layer (Coating): Multiple layers of high-hardness, high-alloy wear-resistant welding wire/strip are welded onto the base layer using automatic submerged arc welding or open arc welding processes. The wear-resistant layer thickness typically ranges from 3-20mm, with hardness reaching HRC 55-65 (approximately HBW 600-750), far exceeding that of solid quenched steel plates.
A simple analogy: It's like coating a tough "bread" (base layer) with an extremely hard "icing" (wear-resistant layer).
Selection and Usage Considerations
Key Selection Points
Impact Assessment: For high impact applications, choose a base layer with good toughness (e.g., Q345) and an impact-resistant wear layer (e.g., martensitic type).
Wear Assessment: For extremely severe wear without significant impact, choose a high-hardness wear layer (e.g., D65, chromium carbide type).
Operating Conditions: For high-temperature applications, choose a high-chromium alloy type; for corrosion applications, consider a stainless steel base.
Processing Restrictions
Cold forming (bending, rolling) is strictly prohibited.
Cutting: Plasma or waterjet cutting is preferred. Flame cutting will alter the properties of the wear layer.
Welding: Welding is only permitted on the base layer to connect other structural components. Direct welding on the wear layer is absolutely prohibited. Heat input must be controlled during welding to prevent peeling of the wear layer.
Installation Design
Bolt connections (with holes drilled in the base layer) or plug welding are commonly used.
The design should consider ease of replacement and incorporate modular backing plates.
