Key Features: Achieving exceptional oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength through extremely high chromium and nickel content, 310S is one of the highest-performing grades among general-purpose heat-resistant stainless steels.
Simply put, 310S is the "aristocrat of heat-resistant steels," with performance approaching the pinnacle of conventional austenitic heat-resistant steels.
Chemical Composition and Design Logic:
Extremely High Chromium Content: Approximately 24-26%. This is the cornerstone of its exceptional oxidation resistance. Chromium forms an extremely stable and dense Cr₂O₃ oxide film at high temperatures, effectively resisting continuous high-temperature oxidation (peeling) and sulfidation.
Extremely High Nickel Content: Approximately 19-22%. High nickel content ensures extreme stability of the austenitic structure at high temperatures, providing excellent creep resistance (slow deformation at high temperatures), high-temperature strength, and enhanced resistance to reducing, carburizing, and cyclic oxidizing atmospheres.
Low Carbon: "S" represents low carbon (C ≤ 0.08%). The low-carbon design ensures resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding and high-temperature use, while maintaining good toughness.
It typically does not contain molybdenum: therefore, its resistance to chloride ion pitting at room temperature is not a strong point. Its design focus is entirely on high-temperature gas environments.
Key Performance Characteristics:
Extreme High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance:
It can operate stably continuously below 1100°C, with intermittent use temperatures reaching 1150°C. Its oxidation resistance temperature is the highest among all standard austenitic heat-resistant steels (such as 304, 309, and 316).
Excellent High-Temperature Strength:
It maintains very high strength and excellent creep resistance at high temperatures, exhibiting extremely high load-bearing capacity.
Good Corrosion Resistance:
At room temperature, due to its high chromium-nickel content, its corrosion resistance is superior to 304 and 316 (except for chloride ion pitting). It resists the erosion of various acidic gases and molten salts at high temperatures.
Good Thermal Fatigue Resistance:
It has good resistance to thermal stress caused by rapid temperature changes.
Good weldability and formability:
The austenitic structure gives it good machinability, but due to its high strength, cold working requires greater force.
