Product Description
Gold lacquered bright finish electrolytic tinplate combines a prime MR grade steel substrate, an electrolytically deposited tin layer and a warm gold-tinted organic lacquer topcoat. The construction serves two purposes at once. Functionally it protects the steel against corrosion and the packed product against metal contact. Aesthetically it provides a rich metallic appearance that makes the container itself part of the brand presentation, which is exactly what premium tea, gift confectionery and specialty coffee brands require when their packaging sits on an open shelf or in a transparent gift box.
The base material is cold rolled low carbon steel with tightly controlled residuals, annealed to T3 temper to give the stiffness needed for body rolling and the ductility needed for seaming and beading. Tin is electroplated at 2.8 g/m2 per side and flow brightened to a mirror-like finish before the lacquer is applied in a controlled-thickness coat and cured through a multi-zone oven. Both the internal food-contact lacquer and the external decorative lacquer are applied in the same pass, so film adhesion, colour and surface slip are consistent on both faces of every sheet.
Key Features- Warm Gold Metallic Appearance: A translucent gold lacquer is applied over the bright electroplated tin surface, producing a deep, warm metallic tone that reads as brass or champagne under retail lighting, lifting perceived product value without the cost of solid brass or anodised aluminium sheet.
- Dual Layer Protection: The tin layer supplies sacrificial corrosion protection to the steel core while the cured lacquer film seals the surface against moisture, sulphur staining and handling marks, so decorated cans keep their appearance through transport, shelf life and repeated customer handling.
- Food Contact Internal Lacquer: The reverse face is coated with a fully cured food-contact lacquer in white, gold or aluminium tone, meeting migration requirements for dry tea, coffee, confectionery and spice contact, and remaining odour neutral so that delicate aromas are not affected.
- Excellent Litho Receptivity: The external lacquer acts as a stable primer for offset lithography and hot foil stamping. Designers can print four colour artwork, screen white and metallic accents directly onto the sheet, with sharp registration across the full 1050mm width.
- Consistent Colour Batch To Batch: Lacquer viscosity, curing oven profile and film weight are monitored continuously, keeping the gold tone within a narrow colour tolerance so that repeat orders and multi-panel cans assembled from different lots show no visible shade difference.
- Ready For High Speed Can Lines: Sheets are flat, correctly oiled and dimensionally accurate, feeding cleanly through body rolling, seaming and beading equipment. The cured film resists the mechanical abrasion of automatic handling and the thermal exposure of the internal seam side stripe operation.

The primary market is premium dry goods packaging: loose leaf tea caddies, tea bag tins, coffee bean canisters, chocolate and biscuit gift tins, spice boxes and commemorative collectors cans. Brands use the gold surface either as the finished decoration with a printed band and embossed logo, or as a background for full four colour lithography where the gold shows through in highlights and metallic accents.
Beyond food, the same sheet is used for cosmetic and candle tins, stationery boxes, premium promotional packaging and limited edition gift containers. Because the external lacquer accepts offset printing, screen white, hot foil and embossing, a single material platform supports an entire seasonal product range, and designers can adjust artwork without changing the substrate specification. Sample sheets in both gold and rose gold tones are available for colour approval before production.
Packaging & Quality AssuranceEach coil is wrapped in anti-corrosion VCI film, interleaved with desiccant bags, then sheathed in kraft paper and finally enclosed by galvanised steel sheet with reinforced corner protectors. Coils are stacked eye-to-sky or eye-to-wall according to customer unloading equipment, strapped with PET bands at four points, and loaded into 20ft or 40ft containers on fumigated wooden skids. Sheet bundles are protected by edge boards and plastic strapping so that the surface finish reaches the destination port free of scratches, white rust and transit dents.
The mill operates under an ISO 9001 certified quality system. Every heat number is traceable and each shipment is accompanied by a mill test certificate covering chemical composition, tensile and yield strength, tin coating weight measured by coulometric stripping, and surface roughness. Third-party inspection by SGS, BV or Intertek can be arranged on request before container sealing, and a retained sample from each lot is archived for twelve months for future claim investigation. Any dimensional or coating non-conformity is settled by replacement or price adjustment within the contracted tolerance framework.
