Product Description
Manufacturing Process: Seamless
Seamless steel pipe is required to ensure integrity and safety under high temperature and pressure.
Steel Grades
Grade B: The most commonly used and prevalent grade. It has excellent mechanical properties (especially high-temperature performance) and a moderate price. Yield strength ≥ 240 MPa, tensile strength ≥ 415 MPa.
Grade C: Highest strength and highest carbon content. Used for applications requiring higher strength, but weldability is relatively poor. Yield strength ≥ 275 MPa, tensile strength ≥ 485 MPa.
Grade A: Lowest strength, less commonly used. Typically used for low-temperature or low-pressure applications where seamless pipe is required.
Chemical Composition and Heat Treatment
Chemical Composition Control: Stricter control over elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur than ASTM A53, especially higher carbon and manganese content to ensure high-temperature strength.
Heat Treatment Requirements: Normalizing heat treatment is usually required. This results in a uniform material structure and refined grains, significantly improving its high-temperature creep strength and long-term service stability. This is key to A106's suitability for high-temperature environments.
High-Temperature Performance
The ASTM A106 standard includes a table of minimum yield strengths at high temperatures. For example, A106 Gr.B maintains sufficient strength even at temperatures up to 400°C (approximately 750°F). This is a fundamental difference between it and ordinary fluid pipes such as A53.
