Chemical Composition: The key difference lies in the high nickel content (typically 17% Cr, 10.5-13% Ni). The higher nickel content stabilizes the austenitic structure.
Key Properties:
Extremely low work hardening rate: It does not easily harden or become brittle during intense cold forming processes such as deep drawing and spinning. This means it can withstand greater plastic deformation without fracturing, making it ideal for manufacturing complex parts requiring multiple deep draws.
Excellent formability: One of the best deep-drawing grades among all standard austenitic stainless steels.
Corrosion resistance: Similar to 304, it meets the requirements for general atmospheric corrosion and mild chemical media.
Non-magnetic: The stable austenitic structure allows it to remain non-magnetic after cold working (unlike 301, which becomes magnetic after cold working).
