Tinplaat (SPTE) is een veelgebruikte naam voor elektrolytisch vertinde staalplaten, wat verwijst naar koudgewalste koolstofarme staalplaten of -strips die aan beide zijden zijn gecoat met commercieel puur tin. Tin dient voornamelijk om corrosie en roest te voorkomen. Het combineert de sterkte en vervormbaarheid van staal met de corrosiebestendigheid, soldeerbaarheid en esthetische uitstraling van tin in een materiaal met corrosiebestendigheid, niet-toxiciteit, hoge sterkte en goede ductiliteit.
Tinplaatverpakkingen hebben een breed toepassingsgebied in de verpakkingsindustrie vanwege hun goede afdichting, conservering, lichtdichtheid, stevigheid en unieke metalen decoratieve charme. Tinplaat wordt voornamelijk gebruikt voor het verpakken van voedingsmiddelen en dranken, maar wordt ook gebruikt in containers voor oliën, vetten, verven, poetsmiddelen, chemicaliën en vele andere producten. Aerosolcontainers en doppen en sluitingen worden ook gemaakt van ETP.
